Achievement Gap Task Force Report on Mathematics for Special Education Students

Summary or Abstract: The Achievement Gap Task Force is made up of superintendents and administrators in San Diego County, for the purpose of eliminating the achievement gap among various student populations. Their initial focus was on student performance as measured by the mathematics portions of the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE). This Report looks at characteristics of efforts to close the gap: 1) Teacher skills & knowledge, 2) A rigorous, standards-based curriculum, 3) Extended learning time; and makes recommendations for providing appropriate professional development, leadership, curriculum expertise, and assistance from colleges and universities to meet the needs of all students.
