Summary or Abstract: As laboratories of innovation, it is up to states to lead the charge for college- and career-readiness. Unlike years past, a student should be able to choose between an entirely academic course of study or a mix of academic, technical, online and dual-enrollment courses and be prepared equally well for the future. State policy can set this context by ensuring high schools offer rigorous academics and several pathways for students to become college- and career-ready by graduation as well as by ensuring supports are available for students as they work to meet these higher expectations.
