Department of Education profiles eight charter secondary schools that are making headway in meeting the achievement gap challenge and discusses six themes and characteristics that are common among all the schools. All schools are driven by mission; focused on college preparation; teach for mastery; provide wraparound student support; value professional learning; and hold themselves accountable.
