Summary or Abstract: Singham looks at explanations for the gaps between the achievement of black students and white students and concludes that the topic is fraught with myths as to causes - most with some element of truth, but not the whole truth. Therefore, when a solution are based on an individual "cause", it fails to solve the problem. In this article, he attempts to create an awareness of the achievement gap as a symptom of more widespread educational problems.
